If you or a loved one is dealing with a hoarding issue, it may be helpful to bring in a mental health professional or a hoarding specialist. Although Abbsolutely Organized can help sort through sentimental items, paper files, and unwanted items, a serious hoarding condition needs professional help outside of organization.

Can I let you in on a secret? Kids love organizing. I know this first hand as a mom of two and a previous teacher. Kids love their stuff, and they want to know where it is when it’s time to play or create! We can help design an organizational system that will work and last for your child for years. This includes a designated spot for each item, clear labels or picture labels for young children, and an organizational mindset.

+ What are the steps to organize a space?
The same steps can be followed to organize almost all spaces. To begin with, the area should be reviewed and goals should be set, such as - what do I want this space to contain? Who needs to be able to use this space? What is the purpose of this space? Next, the space can be measured and the product can be chosen. Now, the stuff! All items should be removed from the space, edited - does anything need to be donated or thrown away?, and sorted by category. Categorized items should then be placed in product, put away in the designated space, and labeled. Finally, a review of the space and a grand tour to each person who needs to know how to use the space!

When it comes to organizing, some people may prefer to do it themselves and some people may prefer to hire a professional. Oftentimes, clients may organize certain parts of their home but want professional help in key areas such as pantries, closets, or playrooms. Doing it yourself might be for you if you are an organized person, have time to dedicate, and are comfortable looking through products without becoming overwhelmed with choices. Professional organization is a different service than house cleaning. Although we sometimes come into messy situations, our goal is to leave you with an organized space, not just a clean one! The Abbsolutely Organized team is prepared to dust off shelves, dispose of unwanted products, and wash organizing product. If your space is facing some serious mess, a cleaning professional may be needed. Remember, time spent cleaning can add time to our projects or take away from valuable organizing time.
+ How long does an organizing session take?
This all depends on the project at hand! Contact me for a complimentary consultation to estimate how much time each project will take. Heads up - organization can be addicting and we often start in one room and are asked to add in another! Recent projects have taken my team of three anywhere from three hours (think a small playroom) to twelve hours (imagine conquering the first entire floor of your house).
+ Will I need to get rid of things to be organized? If I do, where do they go?
This is completely up to you! Although I recommend getting rid of expired, worn out, or unwanted items, I will not throw away things or donate them without asking. If you are ready to make space within your home or are going through a life transition, keeping an open mind about clearing out some of your unused things can be helpful. Ready to say goodbye to some of your clutter? Recycle, throw away, or donate! As a professional organizer I am happy to take items to local charities for you.
+ Where do I start when organizing?
This is another question that’s up to you and your families needs! What area in your home is causing you the most stress? Is searching for food in your pantry taking up too much time? Can you never find your favorite t-shirt in your closet? Are you kid's toys taking over your house? Pick a room or zone within your house that matters to you - that is the perfect place to start!
+ Should I worry about cleaning before a professional organizer comes to my house?
Not necessarily! Definitely don’t worry about organizing products before a professional organizer comes. I will help sort out items that may need to be thrown away or donated, but if you want to do a quick edit before I arrive that is always welcome. Although I don’t expect a spotlessly clean space, keep in mind that dusting shelves and vacuuming out cabinets can add time to the project. I will leave you with an organized, clean space in your home regardless of how it is when I arrive.
